In an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Monday night, Donald Trump Jr. said that Democrats, the intelligence community, and the media had ripped a hole in the fabric of democracy with their allegations of Russian collusion. Equal parts angry and vindicated, the president’s son said that there needed to now be a reckoning for the people who perpetrated this hoax and those who kept the narrative alive with a mixture of lies, half-truths, and wild speculation.
“This was the greatest farce ever perpetrated on our democracy,” Trump Jr. said. “It’s a disgrace and it’s a stain on our Constitution.”
The eldest Trump son said that it was now time for the Justice Department to turn its eye inward and begin investigating the people who created this hoax out of thin air in the spring and summer of 2015.
But people like Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, James Comey, Andrew McCabe, and Christopher Steele were not the only ones to blame, Trump Jr. said. The media, he insisted, was just as responsible for colluding with Democrats to brainwash the American public into believing this volcano of lies.
“Certainly when you look at what the other side was doing, you realize that it was them, in fact, colluding, not us,” Trump Jr. said. “It was difficult to watch, it was difficult to watch what they’re trying to and have been trying to do to my father for two years, and it’s really the Democrats with their media lackeys creating a narrative that they want to be true because they couldn’t explain the outcome of the last election.”
Don Jr. said that Democrats had no choice but to weave dark fantasies about his father and Russia. When it came to politics and messaging, they had little else to work with.
“The issues and things they want to push, they don’t work. They tried that under Obama, they’re trying that with the Green New Deal,” Trump Jr. said.
The president’s son went on to say that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) was a disgrace to Congress and an embarrassment to the country.
“It’s nonsense, Tucker, it’s all a game,” he said. “And you have the leader of the tin foil hat brigade, Adam Schiff, out there every day talking about the evidence of collusion that he’s seen. He’s flagrantly lying to the American people. There’s no accountability for that, Tucker, because when you’re on that side and you have the media carrying your water for you, you can say whatever you want.”
That’s certainly been true for as long as we can remember, but we have the slight (naïve?) hope that the Mueller Report might change things a little. This conclusion – utterly unforeseen by the president’s detractors – has landed like a bombshell in Leftyville. It is so unexpected and so at odds with what the Democrats have been selling that it might just be powerful enough to break through the bubble. We have a feeling that, even in this day and age of the 24/7 news cycle, it could be a death blow to whatever chances Democrats had on dethroning Trump in 2020.
As for the mainstream media, this could very well be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
