(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Mike Pence, once Vice President, has openly criticized Donald Trump, his former running mate, following Trump’s hesitancy to endorse a national abortion ban. Pence accused Trump of deserting the pro-life cause, considering it an affront to the many Americans opposing abortion.

This critique emerged shortly after Trump praised the conservative Supreme Court majority’s decision two years prior, which nullified the seminal Roe v. Wade decision, previously establishing abortion as a legal right nationwide. However, Trump refrained from endorsing a nationwide prohibition, advocating instead for individual states to set their own abortion regulations, with provisions for rape, incest, and the mother’s life.

Trump proposed that state decisions on this matter should be respected, indicating a preference for state-level legislation or voter decisions to dictate abortion laws. He acknowledged the likelihood of varied state laws regarding abortion duration.

Pence, known for his evangelical support, had advocated for a national ban on abortion during his presidential campaign, challenging Trump among other Republican contenders.

Pence articulated on social media that Trump’s departure from the pro-life stance insulted the pro-life electorate who supported their ticket in 2016 and 2020. He credited their administration for nominating conservative justices, thereby facilitating Roe v. Wade’s overturn, which he believed advanced the pro-life agenda.

Pence expressed concern over Republican politicians’ apparent evasion of the abortion debate, stressing the unwavering commitment of pro-life advocates to enshrine life’s sanctity in American law across all states.

In response to Pence’s critique, Trump’s campaign sarcastically questioned Pence’s significance. This reaction underscored the broader Republican discontent with Trump’s stance, shared by notable anti-abortion figures like Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life, who condemned Trump’s position as a concession to Democrats.

The Supreme Court’s contentious ruling has reignited state-level abortion debates, prompting Republican-led states to enact stricter abortion laws, such as Florida’s six-week ban. Meanwhile, Trump has navigated the abortion issue delicately, balancing his role in appointing justices overturning Roe v. Wade with criticism of Republicans’ stringent abortion stances, which he blames for electoral losses in 2022.

Pence, maintaining his pro-life stance, has rejected the idea that supporting life sanctity is politically detrimental, continuing to challenge Trump’s commitment to the anti-abortion cause, particularly following Trump’s refusal to back Florida’s strict abortion law.
