(PatriotNewsDaily.com) -On Sunday, during a side-by-side CNN interview with Manu Raju former Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH)  and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) discussed the Congress’ current state, arguing that Americans should be “ashamed” of what they were “living through” in this Congress.

For the past few months, the House has had a hard time passing any legislation and instead has had to pass several short-term funding deals to prevent a government shutdown. The threat of a possible ousting of yet another Speaker has also contributed to the overall situation which Portman described as “dysfunctional.”

In the interview, the two moderates shared how disappointed they were with their parties. Manchin has previously clashed with the Biden administration, while Portman had also opposed former President Donald Trump during his time in office. The two have now abstained from endorsing either of the potential candidates.

Manchin argued that Biden needed to “take blame” for problems with the border and immigration policy and pointed out that part of the blame fell on the House GOP which did not approve of the bipartisan Senate border security bill from earlier this year. He continued by saying that the things for which Biden is being blamed have now gotten worse and that the only way they could fix everything is through bipartisan agreement.

Portman also pointed out that currently, the Congress is missing bipartisanship, which had been more -prevalent during his time in the Senate. As he argued one could be a progressive Democrat or a MAGA Republican but they needed to be able to find common ground to finally solve the issues they were facing.
