(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Tuesday, following Judge Juan Merchan to hold former President Donald Trump in contempt of court after violating his gag order, many legal experts warned that the threat of jail by the judge could lead to upheaval in this case.

Early on Tuesday Merchan imposed a $9,000 fine against Trump after he violated the terms of the gag order that blocks him from speaking negatively about or threatening prosecutors, witnesses, and others involved in the case. In the written order, the judge noted that the defendant had been warned that the court would not tolerate having their lawful orders violated and that if necessary they would impose “an incarceratory punishment.”

In mid-April, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office filed a motion for Trump to be held in contempt in connection to his recent Truth Social posts. The motion argued that Trump’s posts online violated the order as they targeted known witnesses.

The Trump team has also claimed that in general the Democrats, and more specifically Merchan, are looking to interfere with the election, claiming that the four criminal indictments against him are just an attempt to keep him off the campaign trail.

On Tuesday, while speaking to the Washington Examiner, corporate general counsel Alton Harmon argued that Merchan was only acting within his discretion and that he is aware that the world is watching all of his decisions. He added that Merchan is considering how potential imprisonment could really be seen as true election interference, which is something that Trump has routinely been pushing since the charges against him were first brought forward.
