(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – During a campaign visit to Arizona on Friday, Vice President Harris strongly criticized former President Trump, especially following a recent state Supreme Court decision that reinstated a century-old law criminalizing abortion. The visit came shortly after Trump suggested that abortion regulations should be determined by individual states, while also indicating a reluctance to implement a federal prohibition.

Harris addressed a Tucson audience, sharply rebuking Trump’s stance: “Let’s cut through the gaslighting. We all understand that if given the opportunity, Donald Trump would endorse a national abortion ban.”

She continued, “He aims to revert America back to the 1800s. However, we will prevent that from happening. Remember, it’s 2024, not the 1800s; we’re not going backward.”

The Vice President’s remarks were influenced by a narrow ruling issued Tuesday that permitted abortions only when necessary to save the life of the pregnant person. She described the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022 as a significant disruption and labeled the recent Arizona decision as a major subsequent repercussion.

Harris emphasized that the 1864 law predated Arizona’s statehood and women’s suffrage, underscoring its anachronism and severity. She asserted that this law subjects the women of Arizona to one of the most stringent abortion restrictions in the country.

Attributing the erosion of reproductive rights to Trump, Harris conveyed that the Biden campaign has consistently highlighted these issues to forecast the implications of a potential second Trump term. “The revocation of Roe was merely the beginning of a broader agenda to strip away women’s rights and freedoms, a systematic assault on reproductive freedom across states,” Harris stated, pinning the blame on Trump, whom she termed the “architect of this health care crisis.”

As Harris spoke in Arizona, Trump appeared at a press event with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) at Mar-a-Lago, endorsing the effectiveness of state-imposed abortion restrictions. Meanwhile, the Biden campaign has intensified its focus on Trump, deploying advertising campaigns in Arizona that spotlight the judicial ruling and target key voter demographics with messages about reproductive rights.

Trump recently encouraged Arizona legislators to quickly amend the state’s abortion legislation, acknowledging that the current law might be excessively harsh and anticipating adjustments.

Additionally, Harris endorsed Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) as the next senator from Arizona, supporting his campaign against Trump-supporting Republican Kari Lake, and expressed her thoughts for Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) as he begins cancer treatment.

Harris underscored the importance of Arizona, a state narrowly won by Biden and herself in 2020, emphasizing the critical nature of the state in national elections.
