(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has filed a motion to vacate against the House Speaker following the passing of a spending package that aimed to avoid the Friday deadline for a partial government shutdown. This is the same procedural move that resulted in former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) losing his seat last year.
The measure passed with bipartisan support through the chamber but ultimately passed after receiving more support from the Democrats than the Conservatives. This led to many conservatives in the GOP expressing anger towards the move.
Greene, who has often criticized Speaker Johnson since he first took the gavel in October, claimed that she would not immediately trigger a vote to have the Speaker ousted. She said that this was, in essence, a “warning.” She then added that soon she might force a referendum on his standing in the House.
Greene told reporters in the Capitol that she had filed a motion to vacate following this latest betrayal from Speaker Johnson. She argued that he had broken both the rules and the conference. As she said she had respect for the conference and had paid her dues. She added that she was a member in good standing, and she was not looking to “inflict pain on our conference” or be the reason why the House went into chaos. She continued by saying that this was essentially a warning and that it was time for them to look for a new House Speaker who is willing to stand with the Republican majority rather than with the Democrats.
When asked when she would be pushing for the vote to oust Johnson, Greene stated that she did not have a timeline and that this would be a “rolling issue” for them to assess and make decisions about.
