(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Sunday, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) claimed that the House panel that had looked into the January 6th, 2021, Capitol attack had “compelled” the Department of Justice (DOJ) to examine the possible criminal activities that former President Donald Trump was involved in that were connected to the incident.

In an interview on MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart,” Schiff stated that he thinks that the work the committee did and their final report really helped move the country forward causing the Department of Justice to feel compelled to examine the allegations against Trump. He added that he was not sure what would have happened had it not been for the work of the January 6th committee.

Schiff, who was a member of the Jan. 6 special committee added that after ending their investigation they had referred a number of people to the Department of Justice for possible prosecution for contempt of Congress. In this interview, Schiff pointed out that this included cases where people refused to testify, adding that these cases had not reached a final conclusion. He noted that the Department of Justice had more power in “compelling testimony” and that he believes they most likely also have a body of evidence to which the committee never had access.

Last Tuesday, Trump revealed that on Sunday he had received a target letter from special counsel Jack Smith in relation to the case connected to the Jan. 6, Capitol attack investigation. A target letter is often considered a significant indication of preparing for an indictment in a case.
