( – Following the second incident of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell freezing up in front of reporters during a press conference last week, more people are calling for his retirement. The 81-year-old Senator froze up for around 30 seconds during the press conference in Covington, Kentucky after being asked about whether he would run for reelection in 2026.

This is the second time in recent months that McConnell has short-circuited, with the first incident having occurred in July during a press conference in Washington, D.C. Dr. Brian Monahan, the Congress Attending Physician, had previously cleared McConnell to resume his work in the Senate after having contact with both the Senator and his neurology team.

While the doctor might have maintained that McConnell is in a condition to continue serving in the Senate, there are still a number of people who are calling for his resignation.

The National Review’s editorial board in a recent piece stated that it was time for the Senator to step down following his many years in service.

Age has become a topic of concern in recent years following incidents with Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), 90, and President Biden, 80. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in a recent post on X stated that the “aging health issues and/or mental health incompetence” of the nation’s leadership is an issue that should be addressed. She also pointed out that Feinstein, McConnell, and Biden are all examples of people who should not be in office.

The two incidents of McConnell freezing up are reportedly connected to a concussion he had suffered from earlier this year.
