The Washington Post-ABC News’s recent poll of a hypothetical matchup between former President Donald Trump and President Biden in 2024, has shown that Trump is leading by 7 points. According to the poll, 49% of Americans stated that they would either definitely or probably vote for the former president in a Trump-Biden matchup. On the other hand, 42% stated that they would be or probably be voting for Biden in a hypothetical 2024 matchup.

When the question was changed and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was considered the Republican nominee against Biden, the same lead was maintained. According to the poll, 48% stated that they would either definitely or probably be voting for DeSantis, while 41 said the same for Biden in a hypothetical DeSantis-Biden matchup in 2024.

DeSantis has not yet joined the presidential race officially, however, he is widely expected to announce his bid for the White House soon.

When respondents were asked whether Biden and Trump were in “good enough physical health to serve effectively as president,” 64% of respondents supported that Trump was in a good enough state, while only 33% said the same for Biden. When the question was changed to include which of the men had the “mental sharpness” required to serve in the White House, 54% stated that Trump had the required mental sharpness while only 32% stated the same for Biden.

However, Biden did come out on top when respondents were asked whether he was honest and trustworthy. Forty-one percent stated that Biden was while only 33% stated the same about Trump.

The poll included 1,006 U.S. adult respondents and was conducted between April 26th to May 3rd with a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
