On Wednesday, Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis indirectly responded to the multiple verbal attacks he has faced from former President Donald Trump.

DeSantis is currently widely considered to be one of the top contenders for the 2024 GOP presidential primary, which means he is now in Trump’s crosshairs.

Trump has not been the only one to recently attack DeSantis. During his Florida stop on the State of the Union tour, President Joe Biden criticized DeSantis for being against the Medicaid expansion which would fall under the Affordable Care act. As Biden noted, there would be 1.1 million people in Florida who could benefit from the program, and all it would take would be for Governor DeSantis to agree to the expansion. Florida is one of the 11 states that do not currently have expanded Medicaid.

While Biden’s criticism is related to policy, former President Donald Trump has been criticizing DeSantis on a much more personal level. Last week Trump shared a social media post alleging that DeSantis had “groomed” underage girls during his time as a high school teacher. As part of the post, there was also a photo where the governor could be seen drinking alcohol alongside several teenage girls.

In an indirect response to these criticisms, DeSantis said that “I don’t spend my time trying to smear other Republicans” during a news Conference on Wednesday.
