(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – A group of Texas Republicans is asking the federal government to reimburse states and border communities for all of the funds they have been spending in order to secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

The lawmakers are arguing that billions of dollars have been used for this purpose while President Biden has spent the last two years ignoring the border problem.

This week alone two bills have been introduced by the group which could allow border states and towns to gain back some of the local funding that they have diverted to border security in an attempt to fix the “failures” of the President.

The first bill, from Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, would force the federal government to reimburse back any state that had to spend more than $2.5 billion on border security in the last decade. This would mean that Texas which has spent more than $3.2 billion since the 2008-2009 state budget would qualify for reimbursement.

Crenshaw in the bill states that citizens in border states have to be taxed extra because the state is using its budget to deal with the border security requirements when border security should fall entirely under Federal responsibilities. Therefore, the bill claims reimbursement is required as border spending has been influenced by the “failures of the federal government.”

A second bill from Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, would also create a grant program that would require the Department of Homeland Security to reimburse communities that have been overspending because of the border not being secure.
