(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Sunday, Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) the chair of the House Intelligence Committee claimed that the recent verdict in the New York fraud case against former President Donald Trump was a “threat” to business.
On Friday a New York judge determined that Trump would be required to pay around $355 million after his business was found liable for fraud for inflating and deflating the value of assets to secure better business deals and loans.
During his appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Turner criticised the recent verdict arguing that it was a threat to business. He added that he did not trust the decision made by the court and that as a practicing lawyer in commercial transactions, he believed that the entire case’s premise did not have the necessary justification. He continued by saying that ultimately they would need to see how the appeals in this case would go. However, as he pointed out, if the case manages to withstand an appeal then it would end up being a threat to all businesses, including those that are currently operating in New York.
The legal team representing the former president has stated that they would be seeking an appeal.
NBC’s Kristen Welker pushed Turner on whether he believed that the recent court decision was going to affect Trump’s “trustworthiness as a leader.” However, Turner was quick to dismiss the question. He added that these are all issues that had been considered before Trump’s first election in office and that his presidential record is what people should be looking at.
