(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Former Representative Liz Cheney has said that America will “suffer” after a report stated that Representative Kevin McCarthy had made a deal that would set a limit on defense spending. Reportedly the deal was one part of how McCarthy managed to secure the support of his party and become the House Speaker after the 15th ballot.
McCarthy’s ride to the Speakership was not easy. He lost 13 consecutive ballots last week despite his multiple attempts to negotiate with members of his conference. Before the 14th round of voting McCarthy had been hopeful that he would win the Speakership as in the previous round he had won 214 votes. This meant that he was only missing four votes in order to win the House.
In order to secure all of the necessary votes McCarthy cut a number of details with many in the Republican party. According to a Bloomberg report one of those deals dealt with defense spending by capping it to 2022 levels. This would be a large cut to the spending that is usually available for defense.
Cheney, a Republican from Wyoming, tweeted out that this was not the time for defense spending to be cut as many of the U.S. biggest opponents, such as China and Russia had their eyes on the country and were waiting to see what would happen.
Cheney, who lost the Republican primary in August, has been one of the most vocal critics of former President Donald Trump. She was also one of the two Republicans to be a part of the January 6 committee where she served as vice chair. Trump throughout the past week repeatedly endorsed McCarthy and called for all Republicans to rally behind him.
