(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Monday, former President Donald Trump defended his decision to hold on to the classified documents after he left the White House in 2021, arguing that he was planning on going through the boxes where the documents were found.

In his first interview since being indicted on 37 federal charges, Fox anchor Bret Baier asked Trump why he chose to hold on to the documents instead of handing them over. Trump argued that he wanted to first get the chance to look through all the boxes and take his own personal items out of them.

He proceeded to argue that he was “very busy” and had not gotten the chance to sort through the boxes which was why he did not want to hand them over to the National Archives.

Baier proceeded to point out how in the indictment it is alleged that Trump had told an aide to move some of the boxes that had classified documents inside, while also telling his lawyers to claim that he was cooperating with the request.

Trump claimed during the interview that before he could send over his boxes he first needed to take all of his items out of them. He added that the boxes had many different items, including golf shirts, clothing, pants, shoes,” and other personal items.

When asked whether he knew that there were Iran documents in the boxes, Trump argued that he did not know of anything like that existing in the boxes. He also argued that everything had been declassified before he left the White House.
