(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Wednesday, former FBI director James Comey responded to a question by CNN anchor Poppy Harlow about the bureau’s actions during the Trump administration and specifically about the claims that they had targeted Republicans. In response, Comey stated that the bureau had committed no wrongdoings and that the assertions that they had gone after the GOP was “crazy” and a “nutty article of faith.”

He further claimed that he had no regrets about the way the probe into the potential ties between former President Donald Trump and Russia was handled. This was a response to Special Counsel John Durham’s report, which as Harlow pointed out during the show had found that the FBI had not had enough evidence to justify launching a probe.

Harlow proceeded to ask the former FBI director about his opinion on the latest statement made by 2024 GOP presidential candidate Ron DeSantis who stated that both the DOJ and FBI “are part of the executive branch and answer to the elected President of the United States.” DeSantis’ point was perceived to be targeting how the president needs to control the two institutions and ensure that they are working within the normal set of rules.

When Comey was asked about the FBI being perceived as a threat by the GOP, Comey responded that these fears are largely driven by “Trump and those around him” who view the bureau as a threat. He added that, for that reason, they have been using a “blowtorch” in an attempt to deal with this perceived threat.
