A new North Star Opinion Research poll has shown that support for Donald Trump among Republican voters has significantly diminished since he first entered the political sphere in 2015.
The new poll was released on Tuesday, and it clearly shows that while Trump is still a “formidable force” within the party, there are many in the party who would not choose to support him in his third presidential bid. The majority of Republicans in fact appear to want to see another candidate in the 2024 election.
A new YouGov poll, on behalf of the Economist, currently shows that Trump’s approval rates for the presidency have dropped by 10 percentage points between September and December of 2022. While in September his rating was at 56 percent, by December it had dropped to 46 percent.
Similarly an October survey by the Pew Research Center, also showed a drop in the former President’s favorability within the conservative Republican sphere by 7 percent since July 2021.
Trump is one of the only major Republicans to have mentioned his presidential bid for 2024. Corey Stapleton, the former secretary of state for Montana, has also announced that he will be running for the White House, but in the poll, the only candidate who appears to be reaching Trump is Florida governor Ron DeSantis.
A new poll in fact showed DeSantis with a substantial lead, with 52 percent of Republicans preferring DeSantis while only 30 percent choosing to support Trump.
