(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), an animal rights organization, has been pushing the White House to stop using chicken eggs at the annual Easter Egg Roll and that instead they could switch to using potatoes.
PETA sent a letter filled with puns to the First Lady in which they argued that they wanted to suggest an “appealing way” for them to modernize the Easter Egg Roll at the White House which is scheduled to take place on April 1st.
PETA president Ingrid Newkirk in the letter argues that using a potato roll would be more inclusive and would ensure that everyone felt welcome even if they did not eat effs for environmental, religious, or cultural reasons. They further pointed out that there were people who did not eat animals because they disagreed with the raising and killing practices followed currently by these industries. In the letter, they ask, “Instead of promoting the deleterious factory farming and slaughter industries, will you please initiate the annual White House Potato Roll?” It further requested that Biden launch an annual Potato Roll instead.
Newkirk has argued that through the change they would ensure that no other sentient beings would be harmed or exploited and that this change was going to ensure that there would be more empathy and kindness for animals. She further pointed out that American farmers would also be benefiting from the change.
As the letter specifically noted potatoes were the most popular vegetable in the country, it was safe to consume and because of their shape could be an easy replacement for the traditional activity.
