(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Friday, Fox News host and former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) warned Republicans that they should not discount the performance of President Joe Biden during next week’s presidential election against former President Donald Trump.

While speaking with Fox News host Shannon Bream, Gowdy had been asked whether he thinks the GOP is in “trouble” when it comes to their debate expectations, as they often characterize Biden as a weak old man. In response, Gowdy argued that Republicans needed to be careful and that he does not know why the Republicans often fall into the trap of setting high expectations for how former President Trump will perform against Biden.

He noted further that this debate will be particularly interesting as it will combine agenda and acuity. The viewers will be watching both candidates and considering whether or not they are fit for office. He added that he cannot recall another presidential debate during his lifetime when these issues have been at the forefront when it comes to both candidates.

Last week, Trump and his allies argued that if Biden performs strongly in the debate it should be dismissed as a “charade.” They further claimed that if Biden performs well it could only be because of performance-enhancing drugs.

On Thursday, Trump stated that he did not want to underestimate the President before the June 27th debate. Trump argued that he had seen him destroy Paul Ryan, so he is not underestimating him.

This is a reference to the 2012 vice presidential debate during which Biden faced off against former House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI).
