(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Andrew Cuomo, the former Democratic New York Governor stated during an appearance on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” that should former President Donald Trump not have run for office, he would not have faced any prosecution in the state for his hush money payment.

Cuomo told host Bill Maher that he agreed that the case brought forward against Trump by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg was full of politicization. He added that the case should never have been brought forward, and argued that even state residents who are not fans of Trump still found this case to be offensive as it was a weaponization of the justice system.

Cuomo was referring to the case that had resulted in Trump’s recent conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection to a hush money payment he had made ahead of the 2016 presidential election. However, as he pointed out, the majority of Americans did not believe that the case was fair, and 66 percent argued that the justice system was politicized. He added that while no one in the state likes Trump, the reason why Trump is not paying the price of these verdicts against him is because people perceive the cases to be political.

In 2021, Cuomo resigned from being the governor following a sexual harassment scandal. During his recent comments, he argued that the true threat to democracy is having people in the country who think you are playing politics with the justice system. He added that when people think you are trying to convict and imprison others for political reasons, there is a problem.
