A new Harvard Youth Poll, released Monday by the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School, showed that only a little bit more than a third of Americans currently approved of President Biden’s performance ahead of his expected 2024 presidential bid.

According to the poll, Biden’s approval rating among registered American voters is 38% for those aged between 18 and 29. This marks a three-point drop since last fall and a five-point fall in the last year. Still, Trump manages to be more popular with Young Democrats, at 64%, than young Republicans, at only 6%. His rating with independent or unaffiliated young voters was around 30%.

The new poll comes shortly before Biden’s expected launch of his 2024 presidential bid. According to some reports, Biden might be announcing his presidential bid as early as Tuesday, following months of speculations about whether he would choose to seek a second term because of his age.

The poll also showed that a quarter of young Americans approve of how Biden has handled the economy and inflation, at 28 and 22%, respectively. In terms of handling race relations, 38% approve of his work, and 37% approve of his handling of the war in Ukraine.

When it comes to gun violence, his approval rate is at 27%, but at the same time, 40% expressed fear about potentially being the victim of a mass shooting.

The poll was conducted March 13-22 and surveyed 2,069 Americans between ages 18 and 29, with a margin of error of 2.86 percentage points.
