Fox News pulled census figures for the specific tract covering Point Dume, tract 8004.08. American Community Survey estimates put that tract at about 0.2 percent Black and roughly 94 percent White as of 2019. That is the single hardest data point behind the entire controversy, and it comes from one outlet rather than an independent government release included in this record.

That narrow focus matters. A single census tract does not necessarily represent all of Malibu, let alone Los Angeles County as a whole. But it does describe the exact patch of coastline where Harris and Emhoff now own property, and that specificity is why the demographic contrast has landed so hard with critics online.

Political Symbolism Collides With Personal Choice

The Independent frames the purchase as a signal about Harris’s political future, suggesting observers already read the home as more than just real estate. Politico reports that even her new neighbors suspect the move carries meaning beyond square footage and ocean views.
