(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Trump has finally announced his running mate: Republican Senator JD Vance (Ohio).

Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to make the announcement on Monday, the first day of the Republican National Convention. The Republican Senate, once one of Trump’s most outspoken critics, beat out several top contenders, including North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and Senator Marco Rubio (Florida).

But in the eight years since Vance described himself as a “Never Trump guy,” and called the then-GOP Presidential candidate “reprehensible” and “noxious,” plenty has changed. Chief among them is that Vance has become an ardent Trump supporter.

Vance supported Trump for reelection in 2020 and admitted to CNN’s Dana Bash in May that he had been “wrong” about his previous Trump critiques.

Vance noted that when he made the disparaging remarks, he didn’t believe Trump would be “a good President,” but noted he had become “proud to be proven wrong,” and was now “one of the reasons” he is working to get Trump elected in November.

Vance has gone on to support Trump’s claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election and has slammed criminal charges brought against Trump since he exited the Oval Office.

However, Vance brings more to the Republican ticket than loyalty; he also brings name recognition owing to his New York Times bestseller and influence in his home state of Ohio that could help determine if the GOP gains control of the Senate in Congress’s next session.

Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown (Ohio) has been in office for years and enjoys high popularity, which could mean Republican Bernie Moreno could have trouble unseating him. Yet, with Vance on the ticket, there could be more focus on picking up the seat and allowing the GOP to gain the Senate majority.

Lastly, Vance balances out the ticket age.

At 40, he is the youngest of all of Trump’s top contenders and would become the third-youngest Vice President in U.S. history if elected.
