(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Tuesday, the White House slammed the House GOP over a funding bill that would cut funding to the Department of Justice and Commerce, arguing that the lawmakers were not serious about providing funds to law enforcement to fight against crime.

The House GOP unveiled the bill for the 2025 fiscal year which will allocate $78.288 billion in discretionary spending, while also marking a cut of around two percent from the previous fiscal year. The cut amounts to $1.275 billion.

Andrew Bates, the senior deputy press secretary slammed the bill and called for Congressional Republicans to start working with the President to deal with crime. Bates pointed out that GOP officials had tried to defund law enforcement and that this would only be beneficial to fentanyl traffickers and violent criminals, and they would also take away funding from federal agencies that are essential to bringing down terrorism, gun crime, and even child trafficking.

In his statement, he pointed out that while the murder rate under his predecessor had been skyrocketing, with the funding provided by the Biden administration for public safety, and the first gun crime bill in three decades they have managed to lower the violent crimes to the lowest rates in five decades.

The White House has slammed the GOP for not focusing on combating crime ahead of the November election. However, former President Donald Trump and the Republicans have maintained that Biden is to blame for the crime rates.

Earlier this month, crime data showed that there has been a considerable decrease in violent crimes in the first months of 2024.
