(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – The majority of Americans believe that former President Donald Trump should be tried prior to the 2024 GOP presidential primaries taking place.

A recent Politico Magazine/ Ipsos poll found that 57 percent of American respondents believe that Trump’s trial for his two recent indictments, which included one case with criminal charges over the falsification of business records, and one federal indictment relating to his alleged mishandling of classified documents. An even larger majority, 62 percent, believes that the indictment should take place before the 2024 presidential election.

The views differ greatly based on the political party that the respondents supported. Seventy-seven percent of Democrats argued that the former President should have a trial before the Republican primaries take place, however, 86 percent had argued that the trial needed to take place before the general election in November of 2024. On the Republican side, only 42 percent believe that the trial should take place ahead of the primary election, while 46 percent believe it should occur before the general race. These are similar to the responses of independents, as 47 percent of independents also think that the trial needed to take place before the GOP primaries.

When it came to whether respondents believed that Trump is guilty, the responses varied greatly among the respondents from different political parties. While 81 percent of Democrats believe Trump to be guilty in both cases, only 25 percent of Republicans believe he is guilty in the federal case, and 24 percent think he is guilty of falsifying business records. Overall, 48 percent of all respondents think he is guilty of falsifying business records, while 49 percent think he is guilty in the federal case. Thirty-one percent do not believe Trump is guilty in either case.
