(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Chicago residents have been forced to deal with severe flooding over the past weekend as the city has had to deal with the damage caused by the severe warning. On Monday, there were more weather warnings in the area, which led to NASCAR having to delay and shorten a race in Chicago because of the race.
Many residents have shared footage of the roads and houses flooding. Cars can also be seen being completely submerged, and the riverbanks have burst. The extreme rain hit Chicago only weeks after Illinois enforced water restrictions because of the drought.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a weather warning for more than 110 million Americans during the Fourth of July week. While in Chicago most of the heavy rainfall occurred on Sunday, the city has not yet recovered and forecasters are warning that more rain could fall within the week.
Many researchers and scientists have pointed out that there has been an increase in extreme weather phenomena, which is caused by climate change. These phenomena include thunderstorms, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and even droughts.
The heavy rains in Chicago left the city unable to operate, with trains stopping operation. There were also parts of Interstate 55 and I-290 that were closed because of the flooding on the roads. On the I-55 there were also 10 cars trapped by the waters.
Katera Fisher told WLS-TV that while she was attempting to drive through the high water, the car she was driving started floating. When she opened the door, the entire car started flooding with water.
