(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Saturday, the Washington Post reported that U.S. spy agencies had intelligence about the “armed action” that Wagner mercenary chief Yevgeniy Prigozhin was organizing against the Russian government since mid-June.

According to The Post, several U.S. officials shared that Prigozhin had warned the White House and other U.S. agencies of his plan so that they would not be surprised. The officials also argued that senior leadership at the Pentagon, State Department, and Congress had been briefed about this intelligence, but that the exact details of Prigozhin’s plot were not made clear until the military march towards Moscow on Friday and Saturday.

According to the reports, there were concerns in Washington about what would happen to Russia’s nuclear arsenal if President Vladimir Putin was forcefully removed from power. There were also concerns about the possibility of a “civil war” erupting in Russia.

Prigozhin, who was known as “Putin’s chef” because of his catering contracts with the Kremlin had opposed the Russian Defense Ministry’s June 10th order that would mandate that all volunteer detachments need to sign government contracts. He had stated that this directive appeared to be an attempt to overtake the Wagner mercenary troops which have an important role in Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine.

A senior Ukrainian official revealed to the Post that the Ukrainian military had been monitoring Prigozhin following the June 10th order, as they believed that he might move against Moscow.

A senior Biden administration official had also revealed that it was no secret that the situation between the Wagner Group and the Russian Ministry of Defense was tense.

Shockingly, the Wagner mercenaries seemed to retreat on Saturday night, abandoning the Rostov base they had captured. A video statement was released, filmed at an undisclosed location. “Understanding … that Russian blood will be spilled on one side, we are turning our columns around and going back to field camps as planned,” said Prigozhin.
