( – On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump encouraged his supporters to “vote” despite currently leading by a wide margin in the primary polls. Trump’s statement was made during an event in Iowa.

During the event, Trump pointed out that he continues to have a strong lead against other GOP candidates, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, before he emphasized to his supporters that it was important that they vote. During his statement, he pointed out that winning by a wide margin was particularly important. As he stated he was currently winning by a wide margin, but that did not mean that his supporters should not head outside to vote.

A new NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll found that in Iowa, 51 percent of potential Republican voters who were planning on attending the Jan. 15 caucuses had stated that Trump was their first choice. In second place was DeSantis with 19 percent and in third place Haley with 16 percent.

As Trump pointed out, the margin of victory was extremely important, as foreign countries were watching, and the margin of victory was a powerful indicator.

On Monday, in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump linked the NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll and questioned what surge people were referring to about Nikki Haley. He stated that he was hearing from the “Fake News Media” that there was a surge but he could not see that reflected on the ground or polls.

He added that he was hoping DeSantis and Haley were going well and would continue to have this type of surge.
