Kayleigh McEnany, former White House press secretary in an interview on “America 180 with David Brody” on Friday predicted that once Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) actually joins the presidential race, then former President Trump’s lead would be greatly reduced.

During the interview, she argued that DeSantis has done a great job in Florida and that he will have many achievements to tout during the debates. She further argued that the primary debates were going to be integral in determining which GOP candidate would become the nominee.

She proceeded to claim that while Trump currently has a wide lead, once DeSantis officially joins the race, that lead is going to decrease. This prediction comes at a time when DeSantis is widely believed to be announcing his presidential bid for 2024 within the next two months. Despite this during the news conference at the end of Florida’s legislative session DeSantis claimed that he would be announcing what was coming in the future soon.

Previously, DeSantis had that he had not yet made a decision on whether or not he would join the race. This was despite the fact that many outlets were reporting that an announcement from him would be coming soon.

On average over the past few months, DeSantis has placed second in most hypothetical Republican primary polls, but Trump has managed to gain a significant lead over the past few weeks. DeSantis on the other hand has seen his ratings drop, as he is facing attacks not only from Trump but also from other Republicans.
