Former President Trump’s campaign is set to increase its vetting protocols after Trump’s dinner with white nationalist Nick Fuentes led to a lot of criticism and public outrage. According to one of the sources of the Associated Presses report, a senior campaign official will now be with Trump at all times.
Fuentes attended a dinner hosted by Trump in his Mar-a-Lago estate last week. The dinner was originally meant to be a private dinner between Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, and the former President. However, Ye arrived at the dinner with three guests, one of whom was Ye.
According to an NBC News report, Fuentes and Ye arrived at the estate in a car driven by Karen Giorno, a former Trump campaign adviser. This is part of the reason why screening at Mar-a-Lago is also set to increase. The network also added that Giorno had used a credit card for identification as she did not have her driver’s license. The one reason she was allowed through was that Ye was in the car, and she had also been a frequent visitor at Mar-a-Lago.
Following the dinner, Trump faced incredible backlash.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Tuesday that there was no place for white supremacy in the Republican party.
However, Trump has maintained that he had no idea who Fuentes was when they met and as such, he did not know about his views.
