(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) defended the Supreme Court presidential immunity ruling, emphasizing that the justices have clarified the law.
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Rubio, a possible running mate for former President Trump, alleged that Trump is being politically targeted by the Biden administration. He highlighted that the Supreme Court’s decision grants the president broad immunity for the core presidential powers and acts that they take during their term in office.
Rubio criticized President Biden for allegedly targeting political opponents, which he argued is not something that Trump had done during his presidency as no prominent Democrats had faced prosecution. He expressed skepticism over concerns about Trump’s potential future actions as president, calling them exaggerated.
In response to CNN’s Dana Bash, who pointed out that the Biden administration’s Justice Department has pursued Democrats including Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Rubio countered that only Democrats who had moved away from the party lines had faced scrutiny. He reiterated that the Supreme Court ruling clarified that presidents cannot be prosecuted for official acts and enjoy presumed immunity for quasi-official acts.
Rubio accused the courts of attempting to bankrupt, silence, jail, and target Trump and his allies daily. He maintained that the legal challenges against Trump and his associates are politically motivated.
Rubio’s comments are in alignment with those of Trump and his allies who have long argued that the legal cases against Trump lack evidence and are being pushed forward by President Joe Biden.
Rubio is considered one of the possible options for Trump’s running mate position. The former president has indicated that while he has made a decision, that decision is not going to be announced yet.
