(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Former President Trump is pushing Republicans to move against the automatic voter registration in Pennsylvania, arguing that the change would have a negative impact on GOP candidates, including himself.
On Monday, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social where he stated that the state’s “Radical Left Governor” Josh Shapiro had announced a switch to Automatic Voter Registration. As he argued this was going to be disastrous for Republicans, including himself, in the next election. He further claimed that the move was completely unconstitutional and that the RNC chair Ronna McDaniel needed to push against this move rather than organize “meaningless debates” considering he is leading the primary GOP race by over 50 points.
The second Republican primary debate is set to take place on Wednesday. Trump has stated that he intends to skip the debate in the same way he skipped the first one.
Last week, Shapiro announced that before the 2024 election cycle, Pennsylvania would be switching to an automatic voter registration system, which would mean that voters will be automatically opted in to vote. Eligible voters would need to opt out of the system if they choose to not vote.
This type of opt-in system is already being used in 23 states, and as Shapiro noted the states that use this system are both Republican-led and Democrat-led. Some of the states using this system include Delaware, Georgia, and West Virginia.
Trump had managed to win Pennsylvania in 2016 but not in 2020.
