(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Tuesday, former President Trump did not express whether or not he continued to support House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) despite McCarthy not being able to secure the Speakership so far. During a phone conversation with NBC News, Trump said that many people had been calling him and asking for his support, but that he was just going to wait and see what happens and how everything works out.

Trump’s comments came on Tuesday after the House had adjourned with the Republicans failing to elect a Speaker after three consecutive votes. Republicans currently have 222 of the 434 in the House, but despite this, no lawmaker was able to pass the 218-vote threshold necessary in order to become the Speaker.

The former President who continues to be an influential and prominent figure within the party had previously urged House Representatives to support McCarthy on his bid, as not supporting him could lead to problems.

However, now that the vote has begun and McCarthy has lost the vote repeatedly, Trump is refusing to express his support for the California Republican.

In the first two ballots, McCarthy lost 19 GOP votes, and in the third ballot, he lost 20. This has effectively left the House in a stalemate. It is the first time in a century that the first ballot did not yield a Speaker. The last time it happened was in 1923 when the Speaker election required nine ballots over three days.
