(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – The Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Trump 2024 presidential campaign have filed a lawsuit against Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) in relation to the state’s voter registration efforts.

On Monday the two filed a complaint against the governor’s directive which authorized the usage of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Small Business Administration (SBA) sites for voter registration. According to the filing they claim that Whitmer does not have the necessary authority to use those offices as voter registration agencies (VRAs).

In the complaint it is noted that the authority to make such a designation for these offices lies with the state Legislature. It argued that there are concerns over the defendant’s failure to comply with the statutes in the state that govern VRA designation. It is added that this noncompliance undermines election integrity while making it more possible for individuals who are not eligible to vote to be registered.

The RNC and Trump campaign have further noted that the alleged violations are causing political and economic injury to them as it is forcing them to allocate resources to combat this issue, which is something that they would have otherwise not have had to do.

Michigan is considered one of the key battleground states in the upcoming election. The state had been won by former President Donald Trump in 2016 and by President Joe Biden in 2020. The most recent The Hill/ Decision Desk HQ polling average has shown that the two candidates are polling neck and neck in the state.
