In an interview with Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo on Sunday, former House Intelligence Committee member Trey Gowdy said that journalists from The New York Times, CNN, and Politico were guilty of helping Rep. Adam Schiff sell conspiracy theories and outright lies to the American people.
Days after released transcripts from the Intel Committee’s interviews proved conclusively that Schiff was lying when he told the public (again and again) that there was behind-the-scenes evidence proving that the Trump campaign colluded with Moscow in the 2016 election, Gowdy said that the media should be just as ashamed as Schiff himself.
Bartiromo asked Gowdy to name some of the reporters who assisted Schiff in pushing those lies, Gowdy said: “Well, I hope you have a three hour show.”
“Let’s just start with Politico,” Gowdy said. “Kyle Cheney is just an acolyte for Adam Schiff. Manu Raju from CNN. Nothing Schiff wanted out, made public — no leak was too low for Manu Raju and CNN. Fill in the blank at The New York Times.”
What’s remarkable is that when the Mueller Report came out exonerating Trump and his campaign on the central question of collusion, we didn’t see the media go back to Schiff and point out to him all those times he came on their airwaves and sold those lies to the American people, now did they? You’d think, if you were talking about real journalists, they would be spitting nails when they discovered that their chief source from inside the House Intelligence Committee had been lying to their readers/viewers for two solid years.
Was there any mea culpa? Not hardly.
Instead, the media immediately forgot all about the Russia hoax and proceeded to once again make Schiff into an American icon, cheering him on as he presided over the impeachment of President Trump. Like a dog distracted by a brand new bone, Schiff and the media pivoted from the Russia hoax to the Ukraine hoax, barely skipping a beat. The great American sheep herd was expected to just dumbly follow along as Schiff and the Democrats brazenly sold us another fanciful tale of international treason.
Is it any wonder that many Americans were skeptical when, hot on the heels of THAT partisan witch hunt collapsing, the coronavirus outbreak was suddenly the newest big story? The media makes a big deal out of the “stupid” people who think the virus is a hoax…but they don’t seem to understand that that belief comes directly out of the fact that they’ve been lying to the American public for years. At this point, Adam Schiff and CNN could tell us that the sky is blue, and we’d double-check to make sure.
Loss of trust has consequences, and those consequences have come due.
