Time to Panic, Part 2: HuffPost Blasts Biden and Pelosi for Coronavirus Response

Last week, we talked about people like Ilhan Omar offering praise to President Donald Trump and his administration for the coronavirus response. Seeing leftists admit that Trump has done a great job mobilizing the federal government to act in the face of this crisis was so…odd…that we thought it might be a sign of the impending apocalypse.

Granted, most liberals have just used this as yet another opportunity to tell the world how much they hate Trump, but to even see a handful of dissenters is something special. Maybe even disturbing.

But it’s not as disturbing as seeing the reliably left-wing Huffington Post turn on a couple of their heroes!

“How Did Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden Screw This Up?” asked the headline in a report by HuffPost writer Zach Carter. “The Democratic response to the coronavirus has been a political disaster.”

Let’s see why Carter is engaging in a round of brutal friendly fire. First of all, he starts off by laying all the blame on the coronavirus crisis on Trump himself, insisting that the president “has unleashed a humanitarian and economic disaster on his own people.” We assume that Carter is unaware of places like Italy, Spain, France, Iran, and China, where things are even worse. If he is aware, he presumably views the leaders of those countries as just as guilty as Trump. No, he doesn’t say as much in his piece. Of course not.

But after we get through the first two paragraphs, Carter turns his critical lens on the Democrats:

As the crisis has spread, Democratic Party leaders ― House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and presumptive presidential nominee Joe Biden ― have either been missing in action or short on solutions.

Incredibly, a handful of arch-conservative Republicans have been able to take public credit for advancing the popular, progressive idea of just sending every household a large check for the duration of the crisis. Pelosi explicitly rejected that very idea in early talks among House Democrats, overruling pleas from Democratic economists. With Democratic leaders thinking small, a majority of the public now actually approves of Trump’s catastrophic pandemic management, according to a new poll.

The leader of one party has caused a national calamity, while the leaders of the other have nothing much to say.

Putting aside the fact that Carter can’t go more than a couple of words without taking shots at Trump and/or Republicans (he knows his audience, after all), this is a pretty damning admission. He’s basically saying that Pelosi and Biden don’t have what it takes to govern in a crisis. After three solid years of throwing darts at Trump, they’ve been exposed as the naked emperors they are.

Even for committed leftists, a national emergency can be amazingly clarifying.
