(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is leading conservatives in his state to push against rural legislators who had previously stood against him.

Abbott, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick have attacked 16 Republican incumbents through campaign ads and public statements ahead of the state’s primary. The majority of these attacks have received funding from sources outside of the state.

This move against people who formerly used to be his allies marks a change in state politics as the Republican party in Texas is moving towards a new era of politics, the Trump era.

Thomas Ratliff, a former GOP state board member has argued that the attacks have gotten more personal and intense and that many members when asked would reveal that they are no longer enjoying themselves.

In general, the conservative line of attack is predominantly focused on border issues as well as the impeachment of Paxton. Both of these are issues that have also gotten the attention of former President Donald Trump.

In January, Trump had endorsed David Covey over incumbent House Speaker Dade Phelan (R), despite the fact that Phelan had endorsed the former President in his presidential bid. Still, Phelan is an opponent of both Patrick and Abbot. However, the former President had argued that the endorsement did not “mitigate the absolute embarrassment” that was the impeachment.

Apart from Covey, Trump has also backed Liz Case, who is looking to win the seat currently held by state Rep. Stan Lambert (R).
