( – On Sunday, Hamas released a number of hostages as part of their hostage exchange with Israel. However, out of the 17 hostages released, only one was American.

The 4-year-old Abigail Edan, who has dual Israeli-American citizenship, is related to an important Democrat donor and Biden administration appointee to the Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage abroad. Liz Hirsh Naftali, who was appointed to the commission last July by Biden, is little Abigail’s great-aunt.

Prior to her current position, she had served on the President’s National Finance Committee and had also been the Democratic National Committee deputy finance chair at a time. She had also made the news this past summer as she had purchased one of Hunter Biden’s paintings at an art gallery in Los Angeles.

Following Edan’s release, Naftali and her daughter Noa put out a statement noting that they had been praying for the little girl’s release and safe return home. Edan had been taken hostage on October 7th following the surprise attack against Israel, which resulted in both her father and mother being shot dead by Hamas in their home.

The toddler’s birthday had been on November 24th, and she had spent her birthday as a hostage.

President Biden noted that following the release of the 4-year-old, he had spoken with her family and added that they had been working closely with their partners in Israel to ensure that she would receive all the necessary support to recover from the trauma of the last two months.
