Schumer Takes Victory Lap, Taunts GOP

Majority Leader Chuck Schumer celebrated the emotional victory after the Democrats won the Georgia runoff elections on Wednesday. With this win, the Democrats have managed to gain an outright majority with 51 seats in the Senate.

The New York Democrat noted that watching Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., victory speech about his family, which started with his mother picking up cotton and tobacco, and ended with Warnock winning his seat in the U.S. Senate. Schumer who said he was “brought to tears” also praised Warnock for running an incredibly “inspiring” campaign.

Schumer added that practically the victory is also incredibly important as with 51 seats in the Senate the Democrats are able to breathe. He added that this is guaranteed to help put both judges and nominees on the bench. This is bound to simplify everything and make processes “quicker, swifter and easier.”

Warnock’s Georgia win is the final victory of the 2022 midterm election which has proved to be particularly disastrous for the Republicans who had been hoping to see a large red wave materialize. Instead, the Democrats did not only manage to retain their majority in the Senate but also to increase it, while the Republicans did not manage to flip a single Senate seat.

Schumer said that the Senate results were influenced by many different factors. He noted that the Democrats were running with “great candidates” and their recent legislative wins were also important for this election. He also added that Americans were beginning to move away from MAGA Republicans after seeing the lack of condemnation for the “hooligans” and “insurrectionists” who were responsible for the Jan.6, 2021, Capitol attack.
