( – With the start of the 118th Congress, House Republicans are not wasting any time in launching their long-promised investigations into President Biden’s family. House Republicans requested that the Treasury Department hand over any documents they have regarding the business ventures undertaken by President Biden and his family members, son Hunter Biden and brother James Biden.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen had previously denied a previous request that had come last year by James Comer, R-Ky. However, since then the GOP has won the House majority which allows them a lot more privileges in the investigations they can carry out.

In a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, House Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., wrote that the panel is going to be probing into the foreign business that the Biden family has been involved in. He further noted that depending on the findings they might seek to draft legislation that would limit the business activities that the families of elected government officials would take on.

Despite the GOP having the House majority that does not necessarily mean that the documents will be turned over immediately. In fact, it took House Democrats four years to gain access to Donald Trump’s tax returns, and in order to secure the right to those documents they had to bring the case all the way up to the Supreme Court.

Ian Sams, a White House spokesman on investigations, wrote in a letter that House Republicans have spent a majority of their first holding not in dealing with issues plaguing the American people, such as inflation and the high cost of living, but rather on pursuing partisan investigations and political stunts.
