On Monday, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who announced her campaign for 2024 in February, delivered an address at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Many of the videos from the speech show Haley surrounded by crowds of supporters while chants in support of former President Donald Trump break out. According to Jess Bidgood, a senior national political reporter at The Boston Globe, chants of “Trump!” and “We Love Trump!” broke out; these can be heard in a number of videos that made their way online.

Alan Fisher, an Al Jazeera English Correspondent, took to Twitter to write that the CPAC appearance was a “real test of Nikki Haley’s popularity” within the party. He added, however, that it did not appear to go as well as Haley might have hoped, as she received a polite but not “warm reception.”

During her speech on Friday, Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, pointed out that in the past few elections, the Republican party has failed to win the popular vote, which is a big indication of the need for a leadership change in the party. Even in the 2022 midterm election, the GOP did not manage to win the Senate majority and only won the House in a narrow majority.

Haley added that she wanted to inspire the country once again and encouraged attendees to put their “trust in a new generation” so that the party and country can start winning.
