(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – Former president Donald Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba told The Bottom Line, a Fox Business show, that the recent decision of the Secretary of State of Maine, Shenna Bellows, to disqualify Trump from appearing on the 2024 primary ballot shows that she is afraid.
Habba stated that Bellows’ decision was taking away the right of choice for Americans and that there was only one reason why she would have made the decision to block him from the ballot and that it was because she was too afraid that if Trump got reelected then he would clean up the corruption in Washington.
The first decision for Trump to be barred from a primary ballot was made by officials in Colorado. Bellows in her own decision noted that the Constitution’s 14th Amendment third section which is a post-civil war law that bars officials that had engaged in insurrection from holding office again applied to Trump.
However, this amendment has been debated by legal experts who are divided on whether it applies to the President as his office is not referred to in this section. Still, some claim that Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection should block him from serving in office again under the Constitution.
In a video, Bellows pointed out that she was mindful of the fact that her decision marked the first time that a Secretary of State blocked a candidate from appearing on the primary presidential ballot, but argued that at the same time, there had never before been a presidential candidate that had engaged in insurrection.
