Pelosi Backtracks On Vow To Investigate Chinese Communist Party

Speaking to conservative radio icon Mark Levin this week, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was backing out of her promise to put together a bipartisan committee to investigate the Chinese Communist Party and their dealings with the U.S., the WHO, and the international community. McCarthy said he was counting on Pelosi to make good on her vow so that House lawmakers could begin putting together the pieces of the puzzle that comprises China’s reckless response to the coronavirus outbreak. Unfortunately, the House speaker apparently decided she had other priorities.

“I did get Nancy Pelosi to agree to do this,” McCarthy said. “But just before we went to announce the names, she backtracked in February. So I’ve gone forward and put our own task force together and welcomed Democrats to join with us. This is not a partisan issue. This is an American issue, for the next century.  And she’s not willing to do that, because she’s only focused on trying to impeach the President and make everything political. There comes a moment in time when even the most political person should put people before politics.”

Levin was taken aback by McCarthy’s revelation.

“You are telling me and the American people that after agreeing to it, she backed out on having a bipartisan committee to investigate China’s activities militarily, in terms of stealing our intelligence and in every other way, and the Speaker of the House now refuses to participate? Is that what you’re saying?” he asked.

“That’s exactly what I’m saying,” McCarthy replied.

McCarthy responded, “That’s exactly what I’m saying.”

Reporting on McCarthy’s new, Democrat-free committee last week, the Washington Post’s Josh Rogin wrote:

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will announce Thursday the formation of the GOP’s “China Task Force,” a committee of 15 Republican lawmakers representing 14 different committees of jurisdiction, to coordinate legislative strategy on all aspects of the China challenge. Republicans will use the body as a clearinghouse for ideas concerning China policy. They will use it to set priorities, pool information, coordinate approaches and devise tactics for actually getting bills passed into law.

Sadly, as former House Speaker Newt Gingrich pointed out on “Fox & Friends”, it would appear that Pelosi and the Democrats want no part of holding China accountable.

“It is very hard to understand why the Democratic Party is increasingly pro-Communist Chinese Party,” Gingrich said. “It is really mystifying why they are going down this road when it is so obvious to virtually everybody else in the world, that in fact, it is the Chinese Communist dictatorship which has caused this enormous level of pain literally to the entire planet.”

Yes, but if Pelosi focuses on the true origins of this pandemic, she’ll have to acknowledge that President Trump didn’t actually create and unleash the coronavirus in the basement of the White House. So far, that admission doesn’t seem to be in the cards.
