In a major victorious effort, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office concluded an extensive 102-day investigation named Operation Summer Shield. This extensive operation resulted in the arrest of 148 individuals involved in human trafficking and related crimes.

The operation yielded significant results, with seven victims recovered, including two 17-year-old girls. These victims were provided with necessary care and support, highlighting the mission to protect the vulnerable from exploitation.

Among the arrested individuals were employees from notable companies, including Uber, Amazon, and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. The presence of Ronald Craig Favata, a paramedic, among those charged marks a serious concern, drawing attention to potential endemic issues within first responder services.

Notable Arrests and Charges

John Randall Craddock, accused of traveling to meet a minor for sex, and Devonte Kershaw, accused of conspiring to traffic a victim, faced serious charges. Additionally, Deonte Burton was charged with sex trafficking a minor, having forced a 17-year-old girl into sex work and posting her photos online.

Authorities’ Stand Against Human Trafficking

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister emphasized their relentless commitment to safeguarding the community and prosecuting traffickers to the full extent of the law. Since the establishment of the Human Trafficking Squad in 2021, the Squad has arrested 793 individuals and rescued 42 victims. These figures highlight the persistent and pervasive nature of human trafficking that requires dedicated and continuous vigilance.
