The protests, looting, rioting, and violence that has engulfed America for days is (supposedly) in protest of the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin. How burning buildings and stealing from stores brings us any closer to justice in that case is a mystery that many have questioned, but what happened in St. Louis in the early morning hours of Tuesday is on another level. At this point, anyone still defending the actions of these rioters is a monster who prefers anarchy and murder to law and order. Let it be known.
It was in those early morning hours that a wild mob of looters, trying to break into Lee’s Pawn & Jewelry in St. Louis, shot and killed retired St. Louis police captain David Dorn. Dorn, 77, was trying to prevent the looters from entering the shop. His killing was broadcast on Facebook Live, to the eternal shame of everyone involved in this heinous act, and to the extended shame of anyone who has participated in any of these violent protests across the country.
From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
Police have made no arrests and said they have no suspects. Authorities have announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The killing north of downtown happened on a night of violence and destruction in St. Louis, as rioting followed protests over the Memorial Day death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Dorn was at the pawn shop to protect it from looting.
The Ethical Society of Police, which represents black officers in St. Louis, mourned Dorn as “the type of brother that would’ve given his life to save them if he had to.”
Flowers and a teddy bear sat outside the shop next to a handwritten sign that read, “Y’all killed a black man because ‘they’ killed a black man??? Rest in peace.”
We really can’t say it any better than the author of that sign did.
Our society is in the kind of chaos this country hasn’t seen since (at least) 1968. Except this time, the chaos-creators are being cheered on by Democrats, leftist agitators, socialists, and the mainstream media. Why? Because even gently criticizing black people in 2020 America is tantamount to political suicide if you consider yourself left of center.
So far this year, we’ve watched as feminists have turned their backs on the #MeToo movement, we’ve seen anti-authoritarian liberals cheer for draconian government lockdowns, we’ve seen the former champions of free speech liberalism celebrate the social media censorship of conservatives, and we’ve seen proponents of peaceful protest applaud the destruction of major American cities.
This is the modern American left. The mask is off.
