(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – The Hamas office, which was established with the help of the Obama administration in Qatar, has appeared to have backfired on the United States according to some experts.

Richard Goldberg, who had coordinated the Trump administration’s pressure campaign on Iran, told Fox News Digital that for many years Israel and the United States have been in a “policy fantasy world” where they believed that Doha would act as a moderating influence for the terrorist group Hamas. However, he pointed out that this thesis was ultimately proved to be incorrect as Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel on October 7th.

Foundation for Defense of Democracies senior adviser Goldberg stated that the attack discredited the theory promoted by some people that Hamas was not a terrorist group but rather a governing entity.

Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani, who is Qatar’s Ambassador to Washington wrote in a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed that his government had set up the Hamas office in Doha following a request from the United States in 2012 to open up a line of communication. He added that the office had “frequently” been there to de-escalate the conflict between Palestine and Israel.

The minister further added that the establishment and existence of the office should not be viewed as an endorsement but instead, it would be working as a “channel for indirect communication.”

The State Department noted that Qatar was an important actor in helping establish indirect communication with terrorist groups including Hamas and the Taliban.
