(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – The National Rifle Association blasted Michelle Lujan Grisham, the Democratic New Mexico Governor, noting that she had ignored the Constitution with her decision to put a temporary suspension on both concealed and open carry in Bernalillo County and Albuquerque. The governor has used an emergency public health order to get the temporary suspension in place.

Randy Kozuch, the Executive Director of the NRA-ILA has called the move “shocking” and argued that the temporary suspension showed disregard for both the country and state Constitutions. He further added that the Democratic governor should focus on reducing crime by putting an end to “soft-on-criminal policies.”

According to police data so far this year there have been 76 homicides in Albuquerque while last year during the same time period there were 93 homicides. This marks a slight decrease between the two years.

Kozuch argued that rather than undermining the fundamental rights of those in her state, the governor should be trying to change the soft-on-criminal policies that can actually cause risks to the lives of citizens.

On Friday, Lujan Grisham announced that there would be a temporary suspension of open and concealed carry for at least the next 30 days. The announcement came after the recent shootings of three children, two girls, 13 and 5, and a boy, 11. In the press release, the governor stated that it was time to move beyond standard measures. She added that New Mexicans should not be scared of being in large crowds, taking their children to school, attending baseball games, or feeling threatened at every turn.
