(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – A recent Heritage Foundation report has found that since 2002 there have been a higher number of homicides in Democrat-run counties than in Republican-run ones. These findings go against one of the regular talking points used by billionaire George Soros and other liberals including California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
In the past, Newsom had claimed that out of the top 10 states with the highest rates of homicides, eight of them were Republican. Last year, Soros similarly stated that violent crimes have been on the rise in the last few years and that there has been a higher number of crimes in jurisdictions that did not have “reform-minded prosecutors.” He further claimed that murder rates had been climbing at the fastest rate in certain Republican states where the politicians were “tough on crime.”
Kevin Dayaratna of the Heritage Foundation who along with Alexander Gage, a former research assistant is the author of the report, stated that the problem was that many of the studies used by the Democrats were using “flawed” methodology. He added that as crime was a local issue any analysis should also be completed at a local level.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Dayaratna noted that while it is true that the homicide rate is higher in red states, this crime is often localized, which is why the findings should not be focused on a state level but rather a local level. He further pointed out that crime was also dealt with at a local level, which is why it is important for studies to look at the county level.
