Over the last few months, several prominent liberals have made the case that Joe Biden should not debate President Donald Trump. Some have said that the debates should be canceled full-stop. Others have said that Biden should extract a ridiculous series of demands in exchange for holding the debates – demands so outlandish and improbable that they are essentially agreeing that there should not be any debates.
Last month, CNN hack Brian Stelter said on social media that somehow the idea that Biden shouldn’t debate Trump is just a “right-wing” talking point (despite it all coming from liberals). We wonder what he’s thinking today after the most powerful Democrat in the country put her stamp of approval on the idea.
“I don’t think there should be any debates,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday. “I do not think that the president of the United States has comported himself in a way that has any association with truth, evidence, data, and facts. I wouldn’t legitimize a conversation with him, nor a debate.”
You know what, we agree with you, Nancy. Now that the polls are tightening up, we’re completely on board. Let Joe Biden announce that he’s pulling out of the debates. Let him tell the country that he won’t “legitimize” the sitting President of the United States with his time. Let’s see what happens to his polls then. Let’s see what the American public thinks about a presidential candidate who is afraid to go one-on-one with his electoral opponent.
Does anyone still believe that this woman is some kind of political mastermind?
In any event, it can no longer be said that conservatives are making a mountain out of a molehill. If this is coming out of Pelosi’s mouth, we can assume that this is now official Democratic Party strategy. They want to prepare the stage for Biden to pull out the debates using this excuse or that one. There can only be one reason for that: They do not believe that Joe Biden has the mental wherewithal to compete with the president.
That…is a frightening proposition.
If Biden doesn’t have what it takes to stand up there for an hour or two and debate Trump, then he doesn’t have what it takes to lead this country. Period. End of discussion. This isn’t about whether or not he would “win” or “lose” the debate. This is about whether he is mentally capable of debating without thoroughly embarrassing himself. America needs to know that he can do it. If he can’t, then honestly? He needs to withdraw his candidacy.
