(PatriotNewsDaily.com) – On Wednesday Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) praised former President Trump for his continuous support of Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) in his Speakership bid.

McCarthy has so far lost the support of 21 Republicans who refused to support him through two ballots on Wednesday. On Tuesday’s third ballot there had only been 20 Republicans opposing his bid to become Speaker.

However, Greene has suggested that the number of opposers could have been much larger if it weren’t for Trump urging the conference to drop their opposition and instead vote in favor of McCarthy so that the stalemate in the House could be prevented. Until a Speaker is elected the GOP majority will not be able to take its seats in the new GOP majority.

Greene told reporters outside the House chamber following the fifth ballot, that Trump’s statements have been crucial to the party being able to retain the majority votes that they have for Kevin McCarthy. Despite this, Trump’s attempts have so far not been enough to help McCarthy jump over that 218-vote threshold.

Greene’s support for McCarthy is not on brand for the Georgia lawmaker, who had previously vowed to oppose McCarthy in becoming the leader. However, since the Republican party managed to win control of the House, Greene has become one of McCarthy’s most vocal supporters. In fact, she has even been taking on some of her closest allies who have been vocal in their opposition to McCarthy. As she urged it’s time for the party to get the wins they have and get to work.
