A Florida man who emailed a death threat to Rep. Ilhan Omar and three other congresswomen was sentenced to three years of probation and given a $7,000 fine.
David George Hannon, 67, of Sarasota, apologized before he was handed the sentence Wednesday, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
“I’m very, very sorry and very remorseful about my behavior that night,” Hannon told US District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle.
Hannon, who said he was drunk at the time, had written in July 2019 to Omar (D-Minn.), “Your [sic] dead you radical Muslim.”
He also threatened several of Omar’s political allies — Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.).
Hannon’s daughter blamed former President Donald Trump for her father’s actions.
“He was doing that because Trump told him to,” Elizabeth Hannon Dillon told the court before her father’s sentencing.
Hannon also agreed to counseling and to refrain from any contact with the four lawmakers.
